Xolo Maridueña & Bruna Marquezine Share the Importance of Family in 'Blue Beetle'

The cast of Blue Beetle – the first live-action movie with a Latino superhero at the helm – are sharing what they believe is the most important aspect of the film – family!

The movie, which is due for release in Australia on September 14, follows the story of recent college grad, Jaime Reyes, who finds himself in possession of The Scarab, and ultimately some extraordinary powers as Blue Beetle himself. We’re also introduced to his sister Milagro, his parents and other relatives too who are all right there (and in complete shock) when he transforms into the superhero. In fact, his family remains heavily involved in Blue Beetle’s journey.

“The family aspect, you know, I really think a superhero movie hasn’t really tackled that yet,” star Xolo Maridueña says in a clip shared by Warner Bros. with CelebrityKind – recorded pre-strikes, of course.

“You see these superheroes and they’re like perfect by themselves! They’re like the perfect human beings. They’re like, oh my gosh, he’s buff, he can’t do anything wrong, he always knows what to do and I think a lot of the charm of Jaime is that he doesn’t necessarily always know what to do.”

Interestingly, Xolo goes on to share how he relates in real life because his own family steps in with their support whenever he feels lost too:

“Sometimes you’re going through life and you’re trying to make decisions and the surety of it all and the knowing if what you’re doing is the right thing isn’t always there.”

Bruna Marquezine, who stars as Jenny Kord in the film, agrees and says Jaime’s family is always there for him:

“I’ve never seen a superhero movie where the family is always present somehow. And they’re in everything. In his decisions… they even help him sometimes.”

She adds, “I feel like (family) is just the essence of the movie. It’s really important.”

The film also stars Elpidia Carrillo, George Lopez, Belissa Escobedo, Susan Sarandon and more. Check out the official trailer below:
